What is Weigh station in freight?

A weigh station is a roadside facility where commercial vehicles are weighed and may be inspected. Being over on gross or axle weight results in a fine and often an order not to move until the load is corrected. Many carriers weigh at a truck stop scale before reaching one, because fixing an axle imbalance is easy and a citation is not.

Also called: scale, scale house.
