Freight glossary / Modes and service types
What is Partial truckload in freight?
Partial truckload is a shipment too large for economical LTL but too small to need a whole trailer, moved with only a few other loads and usually without terminal handling. It suits freight that is heavy, bulky, or fragile enough that repeated LTL handling is a risk. Pricing is negotiated per shipment rather than from a class tariff.
