Freight glossary / Operations and dispatch
What is Consolidation in freight?
Consolidation is combining several smaller shipments into one larger move to lower the cost per unit. It can happen at a warehouse, a cross dock, or through a pool distribution program. The saving comes from paying for one truck instead of several LTL shipments, and the cost is the time spent waiting to accumulate enough freight.
