What is ELD in freight?

An ELD is the electronic logging device that records a commercial driver's hours of service automatically from the vehicle's engine data. It replaced paper logbooks and made hours of service far harder to misreport. Because it also captures location and duty status changes, ELD data is a common source for automated tracking updates.

Also called: electronic logging device.
