What is Hours of service in freight?
Hours of service are the federal limits on how long a commercial driver may drive and work before taking mandatory rest. They cap daily driving time, the total on duty window, and weekly totals, and they are recorded electronically rather than on paper. They are the hard constraint behind most scheduling decisions, because a driver who runs out of hours stops wherever they are.
