What is Dispatcher in freight?
A dispatcher assigns loads to drivers and manages the truck through pickup, transit, and delivery. They balance hours of service, appointment windows, and driver home time against what freight is available. In a brokerage the equivalent role manages carriers rather than employed drivers.
