What is Density in freight?
Density is weight divided by the space a shipment occupies, and it is what determines freight class for most LTL commodities. A light shipment that fills a lot of trailer space costs more to move than its weight suggests, which is what density based pricing captures. Getting dimensions wrong at quoting is the usual reason a class changes after pickup.
