What is Transload in freight?

Transloading is moving freight from one piece of equipment to another, such as unloading an ocean container into a domestic trailer. It is done to switch modes, to consolidate, or because ocean containers cannot economically move deep inland. Every transload adds a handling step and therefore adds damage risk.
