What is TMS in freight?

A TMS is the transportation management system a broker, shipper, or carrier runs its freight in, holding loads, rates, carriers, documents, and settlement. It is the system of record for what happened on every load, which makes it the source anything reporting on the business has to reconcile against. Most brokerages run one TMS and a stack of point tools around it.

Also called: transportation management system.
