What is RFP in freight?

A freight RFP is the process where a shipper puts its lanes out to carriers and brokers for pricing, then awards the volume based on rate and service. Large shippers usually run one annually and cover hundreds or thousands of lanes at once. A mini bid is the same process run mid year on a smaller set of lanes that have broken.

Also called: request for proposal, freight bid, bid.
