What is Margin in freight?

Margin in brokerage is the difference between what the shipper pays and what the carrier is paid on a load. It is usually expressed both as an absolute amount per load and as a percentage of revenue. Margin measured before accessorials and claims is not the margin the business actually keeps, which is why delivered margin matters more than booked margin.

Also called: gross margin, broker margin.
