Freight glossary / Operations and dispatch
What is Loaded miles in freight?
Loaded miles are the distance a truck travels with freight on board, as distinct from deadhead miles run empty. Revenue per loaded mile is the standard way a carrier measures whether a load is worth taking. Total miles including deadhead are what actually determine cost, which is why the two figures must be compared rather than one used alone.
