What is Lane in freight?
A lane is a defined origin to destination pair that freight moves along repeatedly, usually described by city or by a broader region. Lanes are the unit that rates are quoted on, bids are awarded on, and carrier networks are built around. The same physical route is a different lane in each direction, because supply and demand are not symmetric.
