What is Headhaul in freight?
A headhaul is the direction of a lane that has more freight than trucks, so it pays above the market average. It is the leg a carrier wants and the one a shipper pays up for. Headhaul and backhaul are relative to a market rather than fixed, and they invert seasonally.
