Freight glossary / Accessorials and charges
What is Liftgate in freight?
A liftgate is a powered platform on the back of a trailer that raises freight between ground level and the deck, needed wherever there is no loading dock. It is requested as an accessorial and requires equipment the carrier must actually have. Ordering a liftgate after the truck has been assigned is a common cause of failed deliveries.
