Freight glossary / Operations and dispatch
What is Dwell time in freight?
Dwell time is how long a truck or container sits at a facility before it can move again. In drayage it usually refers to a container waiting at a terminal, and in truckload it is the time between arrival and departure at a dock. Facilities with long dwell times get worse rates and less capacity, because carriers price the delay in.
