Freight glossary / Accessorials and charges

What is Driver assist in freight?

Driver assist is the charge for a driver helping load or unload rather than only operating the truck. Many carriers prohibit it outright for injury and liability reasons, so it has to be agreed before dispatch rather than requested at the dock. Where a receiver requires unloading and the driver will not do it, a lumper is the alternative.

Also called: driver unload, driver help.
