Freight glossary / Accessorials and charges
What is Lumper in freight?
A lumper is a third party hired to load or unload a trailer at a warehouse, and the lumper fee is what that service costs. Grocery and food distribution receivers commonly require one rather than letting the driver touch the freight. The driver usually pays at the dock and is reimbursed, so the receipt matters as much as the charge.
