What is Asset based in freight?
An asset based carrier owns the trucks and trailers it operates, as opposed to a broker that arranges transport using other companies' equipment. Asset based providers control service directly but can only flex capacity as fast as they can add equipment and drivers. Many large providers run both an asset fleet and a brokerage alongside it.
