What is Owner operator in freight?

An owner operator is a driver who owns their truck and either runs under their own authority or leases onto a larger carrier. They make their own load acceptance decisions, which makes them price sensitive and fast to move between lanes. A large share of US trucking capacity sits with very small operations of this kind.

Also called: o/o, owner-op.
