What is MC number in freight?

An MC number is the docket number the FMCSA issues to a carrier or broker authorized to move regulated freight in interstate commerce. It identifies the operating authority rather than the vehicle fleet, which is what the DOT number does. A company can hold more than one, and a revoked MC number is a hard stop on hauling for hire.
